Anti-Militarisation Poster

After completing my internship with Quakers in Britain, I was commissioned to produce an anti-militarisation poster to be used in primary schools as a teaching resource. We discussed the birds-eye layout and I was given a list of elements they wanted to include, which was added to as the process went on.

It would be the first time I created a large scale digital painting so I did a quick sketch (below, left) in an hour to check I could complete the poster within a reasonable time.

The finished piece was used in so many more ways than Iā€™d imagined. Ellis Brooks used it as the main activity for his workshops on Anti-Militarisation at the Quakers In Britain Yearly Meeting. Many Quaker meetings around the country displayed it in their meeting houses.

Veterans for Peace were delighted with their representation, especially as the drawing was taken directly from a photo of a real demonstration. It was even used as the back drop for a production of Over the Top Down in Rotherhithe, London.
